The use of membrane technology to treat CO2-bearing gas on-site

3 September 2024

Worldwide, there are more than 200 treatment units running to remove CO2 from natural gas, with gas volume over 60 billion m³/year. That way, membrane technology is used in membrane unit supplied by R&P Co. Grasys to NIS Velebit in Serbia to reduce CO2 in associated gas.

The key aspect of using the membrane technology (in contrast to conventional amine purification technology) lies in the fact that membrane unit can be on-site and thus used at a field. The simplicity of the technology as well as no need for reagents are of vital importance. Low minimum performance bound for processed gas that determines profitability also makes a difference. Membrane unit with roughly 9,000 m³/h flowrate is unrivaled, while with flowrates up to 35,000 m³/h it is competitive with amine unit.
