The principle of membrane separation of a gas mixture is based on the different penetration rates of its components through a polymeric membrane due to the differential partial pressures of the gas on either side of the membrane.

Membrane gas separation technology is widely used throughout the world to extract nitrogen from air, extract hydrogen from hydrogen-bearing gas mixtures, and extract carbon dioxide and water from natural gas.

    Nitrogen is used as an inert gas for cleaning and protecting process vessels to ensure safety, for purging and testing pipelines, and for transporting substances under pressure.
  • Paint and Varnish Industry
    In the paint and varnish industry, nitrogen is used to create an inert atmosphere in process volumes to ensure safety, as well as in the packaging of products in an inert atmosphere to prevent the polymerisation of oils.
  • Coal Industry
    In coal mining, nitrogen effectively prevents and suppresses fires, reliably smothering hard-to-reach fire seats in just a few hours of nitrogen unit operation.
  • Iron and Steel Industry
    In the iron and steel industry, nitrogen is mainly used to protect metals during annealing, neutral hardening, carburising and brazing.
  • Electronic Industry
    In the electronic industry, nitrogen is used to prevent oxidation in the manufacture of semiconductors and electrical circuits, quenching of finished products, purging and cleaning.
  • Pharmaceutical Industry
    In the pharmaceutical industry, nitrogen is used in the packaging of medicines and the handling of finely dispersed substances.

Membrane Nitrogen Generation Units and plants

Nitrogen generation units generate nitrogen at flow rates of up to 5,000 m³/h and purity levels from 90 to 99.9%. This is the most technically and economically advantageous solution for nitrogen generation from atmospheric air. These fully automated systems are designed for use indoors or as part of mobile outdoor plants.
